Learn how to create handcrafted books from an expert at the Owl and Lion Bindery
During this workshop participants will learn how to fold and manipulate paper using specialist bookbinding tools, and will learn three versatile book structures; the pamphlet, the concertina, and Single Section Case Bindings. A “case binding” is what most people commonly think of as a “hardback” book. A case binding consists of a section or multiple sections set between a hard front and a back cover and a spine.
On completion of the workshop students will leave with a set of their own books and the skills to make more at home using minimal equipment.
Introduction to Bookbinding 1 is the first in a four-part series of introductory bookbinding workshops at the Owl and Lion Bindery. You are encouraged, but not required, to take all four workshops in order. For a complete beginner, taking all four workshops in order will give you a good foundation in bookbinding.
This workshop booking is for one person only. Additional participants must book in individually, regardless of household arrangement or age.
Please note:
Suitable for complete beginners includes tea, coffee and biscuits.
All materials and tools provided, you will go home with your own set of lino cutting tools and some rubber blocks to continue your new passion.
This is a technical workshop, anyone with enthusiasm for making books and sewing is welcome to join in. No experience is necessary, but the workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.
Please read our Terms and Conditions carefully before booking as refund is not permitted for change of mind.
