19th Century Library 'Split board' Binding
Introducing you to working with leather, this course provides you with all the techniques needed for refining and practicing these skills.
Be taught to use a variety of tools and materials and how to apply them to the construction of your book.
Over two days you will learn how to make:
i) A traditional quarter-bound book; leather spine and corners, marbled cover and end papers, finishing the book with traditional blind tooling.
• Sew sections onto tapes to make a book block
• Round and back your book block
• Be introduced to leather paring, then covering your book with leather in quarter bound style (with corners).
• Create raised bands
• Be taken step-by-step through Blind tooling technique and learn how to 'run up a spine'.
Date: Saturday & Sunday 13rd & 14th May 2023
Time: 9.30am - 4pm
Materials:
All materials and tools are supplied at the Bindery.
Bottled water, Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided free for you to help yourself throughout the day.

Holding deposit confirms your place and are non-refundable. Should you change your mind, it is transferable within 12 months onto another course or in credit for materials and tools. You will receive an invoice for the rest of the amount owing 2 weeks before the commencement of class.
